London Design Museum
2006 Mobile Sculpture Installation

An image of the mobile in the
London Design Museum Lobby.

Sometimes the client has the shapes made, and I make the mobile. Using Other Peoples Pieces is an interesting challenge, but is always successful. The London Design Museum project is an example of this process.

This project was the result of working with a client who needed a specific mobile sculpture realized, and had the pieces designed, but wished me to make the mobile. The client furnishes the pieces, and I can furnish the technical and design assistance to create a mobile sculpture.

Other clients I have created for are trade show design companies, and historical museums.

Working with the designer, Stefi Orazi,(stefi@stefiorazi.co.uk ), the concept and size were determined. They sent the pieces from England, and the mobile was constructed, photographed, and approved in California via e-mails. Then shipped to London for installation.

In this case, the designer furnished a finished sketch. Sometimes I do the design and submit it to the client before making the mobile.
After the plastic silk-screened shapes arrived, the mobile was constructed in the Mare Island studio. Working from the drawing, the mobile in its finished size was 10ft across and 6 ft tall. Photos were sent to the client for approval before shipping.  The unretouched photo below is one of the shots sent to London for approval by the London Design Museum prior to shipping.
