Large Mobiles

Large sculptures Over the past 30 years I have realized large versions of smaller mobiles for lobbies, stairwells and public display areas. Collectors have wished large versions of mobiles for their homes. The designs, engineering, and aethetics have to change, and the finished product has more majesty than the small versions.

My mobiles are for indoors. Large Mobiles for me are bigger than 7 feet, and go up to 12 feet long. They usually weigh less than 50 pounds, making them easy to hang, and lightness encourages the gentle movement from the indoor air currents.

Flying Ladder Mobile Sculpture
Flying Ladder Mobile. 2003
This is a large version of a 1987 mobile that was a break-out in new shapes for me.
Painted sheet metal. 12ft X 4ft X 4ft. $40,000.00
Arc Point Mobile Sculpture
Arc Point Mobile. 2006
Inspired by a 1920 Watercolor by Wasily Kandinsky. A small version was realized first, then the larger version was made.
Painted sheet metal. 72" Tall by 50" span. $25,550.00
Blue Zig Zag Mobile Sculpture
Blue Zig-Zag Mobile. 2001
The inspiration for this and "Double Suns" mobiles grew from a series of mixed-media 24" X 40" drawings. A small version was realized first, then the larger version was made.
Painted Sheet Metal. 96" span by 48" tall. $24,000.00
Double Suns Mobile Sculpture

Double Suns Mobile.2001
The inspiration for this and "Blue Zig-Zag" mobiles grew from a series of mixed-media 24" X 40" drawings. A small version was realized first, then the larger version was made. Painted Sheet Metal. 96" span by 48" tall. $24,000.00
Large Red Double Pans Mobile Sculpture

Large Red Double Pans Mobile. 2005
I began making Double Pans mobiles in 1995, and have made them in various sizes from 24" up to 60". The materials have varied: stainless, copper, painted galvanized sheet metal. They all have light plywood as the top disks to enhance the movement. They have been painted every color, often suggested by the client.  Painted Sheet Metal, Plywood. 72" long, 60" tall, 36" wide. $15,000.00
Liquid Cube Mobile Sculpture

Liquid Cube Mobile. 1976
This is the oldest mobile on the site. It was a successful investigation of a wire sculpture that did not depend on Alexander Calder style. A break-out of independence for me. The Liquid Cube design has been used as a column, in stainless, and in various sizes and wire thicknesses. Painted Wire, Aluminum Rack. 60" wide, 72" tall. $50,000.00
Single Wave Mobile Sculpture

Single Wave Mobile. 2001
This mobile element, made from thin stainless cut outs, serves as a single unit in composing a multi-mobile art piece. The largest realized was for the South Carolina Aquarium, consisting of 250 of the individual 7 ft mobiles to create a 180 foot long by 10 foot wide, and 5 foot deep construction titled "Water/fish/bird". The individual elements are for sale, and inquire regarding larger combinations. Stainless Steel sheet & wire. 72" long, 36" wide, 18" Tall. $1,800.00
Abstract Waterfall Mobile Sculpture

Abstract Waterfall Mobile. 2007
Commissioned for a lobby in Baltimore, Md. The concept came from a client who wished a fanciful, abstract, vertical piece. First a model was realized, then the full-sized work was made. Painted sheet Metal. 15 ft tall, 6 ft diameter. $25,000.00
Design Shapes Mobile Sculpture

Design Shapes Mobile 2006.
This was an interesting contract: I was contacted by the client in London. They had the shapes and wished a mobile made from them. The shapes were computer-cut Formica sandwiches printed on both sides, and very light weight. The client had a drawing of what the mobile was to look like. They sent the pieces to me in California. I made the mobile, and shipped it back for the exhibition. Printed, Cut Formica, stainless steel wires. 12 ft diameter, 6 ft tall. NFS
